In 2005, the Federal Aviation Administration initiated an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to assess the potential impacts of the proposed relocation of Runway 11R/29L at Tucson International Airport (TIA). The runway relocation was included in the 2004 TIA Master Plan Update as one of several projects recommended for development over the next 20 years.

The EIS process is temporarily on hold to allow the Tucson Airport Authority to conduct additional planning analysis critical to refining the proposed runway location. The information received from this analysis will ultimately define the continuation and schedule of the EIS process.
