Tucson Airport Authority is involved in an extensive remediation of soil and groundwater contaminated by industrial solvents used during WWII. The airport continues to monitor soil, water and air quality and is proactive in protecting these aspects of our environment. TAA is currently building a groundwater treatment facility on Tucson International Airport. Scheduled for completion in mid-2007, the plant will use air stripping to clean up shallow groundwater on the west side of the airfield. The project also includes the removal of Volatile Organic Compounds, VOCs, from contaminated soil in the same area.
