Tucson International Airport
Holiday Travel 2007

The holiday season at Tucson International Airport is expected to be busy during peak travel times, 6:00 a.m. to noon and 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Typically over Thanksgiving and Christmas more people visit the airport and Tucson Airport Authority encourages travelers and visitors to get to the airport early and visit the airport and airline websites for information that may be helpful.

TIA Holiday Travel Tips are available for download from the airport website, www.tucsonairport.org.

The Air Transport Association of America (ATA), the industry trade organization representing the leading U.S. airlines, is forecasting a 4% increase in the number of passengers traveling globally on U.S. airlines during the 2007 Thanksgiving holiday season, Friday, Nov. 16 through Tuesday, Nov. 27. Tucson International Airport expects as many as 11,000 arriving and departing passengers a day will be using the facility during peak hours.

ATA projects the three busiest travel days during the Thanksgiving travel period are expected to be Sunday, Nov. 25; Monday, Nov. 26; and Wednesday, Nov. 21, respectively.

ATA member airlines are adopting a number of initiatives to better serve passengers this year. Their website has details: www.airlines.org.

Tucson Airport Authority offers these travel tips:

SECURITY CHECKPOINTS

The Transportation Security Administration typically issues tips to travelers over key holidays. Their website also includes a list of items permitted past security checkpoints and a wait time calculator for airports around the country: www.tsa.gov.

  • Items surrendered at security checkpoints are not held and will not be returned. New measures allow three ounce travel-size quantities of liquid toiletries in a one-quart, clear, plastic, zip-lock bag. No restrictions on medications, but travelers must declare they have the items.
  • After clearing security, travelers can now bring beverages and other items purchased in the boarding area on-board aircraft.
  • FedEx/UPS and CheckPoint Mailers drop boxes at each concourse allow passengers to mail items that would be confiscated at checkpoints.
