DAYS GONE BY: THE AIRCRAFT OF THE BONEYARD
AND THE PILOTS THAT FLEW THEM
AND OTHER EXHIBITS ON DISPLAY AT TIA
Photographer Pamela L. Reed has taken a series of silver gelatin prints for Days Gone By, the Aircraft of the Boneyard and the Pilots that Flew Them, bringing together images and short oral histories documenting military pilots.
Describing her experience, Reed states, “In 2003 I passed the boneyard on Kolb. In my mind, I immediately saw the pilots dressed in their flight suits holding their helmets, standing next to these aircraft which carried them home safely from war now covered in spraylat to protect the aircraft from the elements. I knew somehow I would find a way to reunite these pilots one last time with the aircraft that carried them safely home from war.”
This is the second exhibit at Tucson International featuring Reed’s work. It can be seen through May 31, 2007, in the Lower Link Gallery located adjacent to American Airlines baggage carousel #7. For more information on Reed, visit her website www.alteregoimages.com.
Also on exhibit at TIA are black and white photographs of downtown Tucson by David Burckhalter. Portraits of the Past: Tucson Photographs from the 1970s is in the Upper Link Gallery on the ticketing level adjacent to the walkway to the Rental Car building through April 30.
These exhibits are a part of the airport’s temporary art exhibit program. For more information about the airport art program visit the airport’s website at www.tucsonairport.org or send an email for more information to art@tucsonairport.org.
