TUCSON AIRPORT AWARDS BIDS FOR
SOUND INSULATION PROGRAM
At their meeting today, the Tucson Airport Authority board of directors awarded G&G Specialty Contractors the bid for sound insulation improvements to 86 homes located within the TIA noise contours. The amount of the bid award for the combined projects was $3,270,896 and is being funded with Federal Aviation Administration and Arizona Department of Transportation grants.
Since 1991, the Tucson Airport Authority Residential Sound Insulation Program (SIP) has been insulating homes exposed to significant levels of aircraft noise. The voluntary program provides acoustic remediation to homes within the highest noise level areas. At no cost to the homeowners, the eligible residences are retrofitted with acoustic windows and doors, attics are insulated and ventilation/mechanical systems are modified to reduce the internal noise levels.
By the end of 2007, TAA will have completed 835 of the 1,160 residences that have signed up for the program. The average cost of sound insulating the homes that were recently completed ranged from $28,000 to $35,000.
Since the inception of the program, TAA has received $19,707,080 in federal funds for the work.
