TIA CELL PHONE WAITING LOT NEW, IMPROVED AND STILL FREE

Tucson airport’s popular free parking lot, Phone and Go, has reopened after undergoing an $82,000 facelift that included paving, curbing, striping, and drainage improvements. Designed by Kimley Horn and Associates, and built by Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co., the lot is located on Airport Drive, off the entrance roadway to the terminal, between S. Plumer and S. Tucson Blvd., and can accommodate 40 vehicles.

Opened in November 2004 on a trial basis, Phone and Go is the result of the proliferation of cell phones – and our addiction to them. Many people prefer to wait in their cars for arriving friends and family to call them, rather than park and walk inside the terminal.

However, visitors may rethink the cost to park in the hourly lot in front of TIA. The airport offers some of the cheapest - $2 per hour, American Express, Master Card and Visa credit cards accepted - and coolest entertainment in town.

Comfortable Welcome Lounges in baggage claim feature live FlightView® monitors that display real time flight information, while closed circuit television make it possible to track the progress of arriving passengers walking down the concourse into baggage claim. Coffee any way you like it, as well as beer and snacks, are available at Ike’s Coffee Bars, adjacent to the Welcome Lounges where visitors can dine inside or out at the sidewalk cafe.

Tucson Airport Authority’s Art and Culture Program includes Live at TIA! a showcase for local musicians who entertain throughout the terminal each month. Art exhibits are displayed in several galleries throughout the terminal, and exhibit cases in the Link – the moving sidewalk that connects the terminal to the rental car facility – contain rock and mineral specimens from the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, and artwork from various galleries including Pima Community College.

Wireless Internet is available in hotspots throughout the terminal, including the airport’s pre-security restaurants. Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream and Cibo Express Gourmet Markets are located on the Ticketing Level/Center Pointe, and Jet Rock Bar and Grill is upstairs on the third floor overlooking the Center Pointe.

Also upstairs, Paradies Desert House operates a gift shop selling Native American jewelry and other work by regional artists.
