September Airline Passenger Traffic
Up 9.6% At Tucson International Airport
Tucson International Airport (TIA) passenger traffic for the month of September 2007 posted a 9.6% increase over September 2006, with 328,716 arriving and departing passengers compared to 299,914 a year ago.
Year to date, passenger traffic has increased 4.68%. For the first nine months of 2007, traffic totaled 3,304,939, compared to 3,157,237 for the first nine months of 2006.
Tucson Airport Authority officials attribute the strong and accelerating growth in passengers this year to greatly expanded nonstop air service options, competitive airfares, and enhanced customer amenities that make TIA the preferred airport for travelers throughout southern Arizona and northern Sonora, Mexico. By November 11, there will be more than 85 nonstop daily departures to 28 destinations available from Tucson International Airport.
Southwest Airlines begins nonstop service to Oakland, California, and adds a fourth daily flight to San Diego, on November 4, for a total of 21 daily nonstop departures to six destinations.
ExpressJet Airlines, which entered the Tucson market in April with five new nonstop destinations, recently added nonstop service to El Paso, and on November 11, they will introduce service to Omaha, Reno, and Spokane, for a total of 11 daily nonstop departures to nine cities.
More options for people flying to Tucson’s most popular destination will be added on December 17 when Delta Air Lines launches twice daily nonstop service to Los Angeles. This will bring the total number of daily nonstop flights available to Los Angeles from Tucson to 13. Southwest and United Airlines also fly to LA.
Sun Country Airlines begins twice weekly service to Minneapolis December 16 that will continue through April 7.
