MORE REASONS TO VISIT TUCSON INTERNATIONAL:
ADDITIONAL AMENITIES DEBUT
Visitors to Tucson International Airport may feel like they haven’t strayed far from home. The Welcome Lounges in Baggage Claim, opened last December, now feature living room-style furniture with comfortable upholstered chairs. That much easier to sip an espresso delight from the adjacent Ike’s Coffee Bar while watching arriving passengers on closed circuit television, or the progress of arriving and departing flights on the FlightView® monitor.
If people watching pales, airport guests can take a spin on today’s equivalent of Magic Fingers: the massage chair. The ones created by First Class Seats (www.firstclassseats.com) have been installed at airports and shopping malls around the country, and six of them are now resting comfortably at TIA. There are two sets in the Welcome Lounges and another in the center of the ticketing area on Level 2, adjacent to the TIA Main Gallery. Later this Fall, massage chair workstations with additional features like music with headphones, and laptop and cell phone plug-ins will be available on the concourses.
Rather than vibrate, First Class Seats give a deep muscle workout with strong pressure up and down the back. Costing a little more than the two bits required to activate the Magic Fingers mattress, but quite reasonable when you consider inflation, the price of a massage in a First Class® seat is $1 for a three-minutes, $5 for a 15-minutes, and $10 for 30-minutes.
If meeting a client takes you to the airport, there’s another reason to linger awhile. The Conference Center, adjacent to the Jet Rock Bar and Grill at the top of the stairs on the third level, has three meeting rooms available. Featuring conference tables and chairs and built-in projection screens, the rooms rent for $50-75 per half day. Complete catering of food and beverages is also available. To reserve the space contact OTG Management at 520-573-8225.
Other projects in progress as part of the TIA: 2007 Concourse Renovation Project:
. New restrooms are open on the concourses and existing facilities are being remodeled, and are scheduled to reopen in December.
. New stairwells in front of the American and United Airlines’ ticket counters are targeted to open in November.
. The International Arrivals Facility, inside the terminal, is scheduled for completion in November.
. A third elevator at the south end of the TIA parking garage, will open in late September.
