PLATINUM PHOTOGRAPHS HEADLINE EXHIBITS
AT TUCSON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

We Walk in Beauty, images of Native American individuals photographed and interviewed by Gary Auerbach, is on display in the Tucson International Airport (TIA) Gallery through March 31, 2008. The exhibit features rarely produced platinum photographs which are known to be the most archival way to produce a photographic print. Platinum metal salts are hand coated, and photographically etched into watercolor paper. The platinotype is made to last 500 to 1,000 years.

The exhibit at Tucson International mirrors Auerbach’s book of the same name and includes interviews with the subjects in the photographs.

In Auerbach’s book, Jennifer Brathovade of the Sisseton-Wahpeton, Spirit Lake Sioux Nation, notes in the Forward, “Breaking with the past, Auerbach is one of the first photographers to invite his subjects to participate as full partners in the collaboration process of making a photograph. This innovative book is the poignant and successful results of that collaboration.”

Auerbach has work in many international museums, including the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History which has 44 images from We Walk in Beauty.

The artist is hosting a reception on February 21 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. that is free and open to the public. TIA parking lot tickets will be validated.
