DATE OF DISTRIBUTION: March 13, 2008 FOR RELEASE UPON RECEIPT February Airline Passenger Traffic Tucson International Airport (TIA) passenger traffic for the month of February 2008 posted an 11.8% increase over February 2007, with 391,868 arriving and departing passengers compared to 350,265 a year ago. Year-to-date, passenger traffic has increased to 745,934, up 6.3% from 701,646 for the first two months of 2007. Passenger traffic for calendar year 2007 increased 4.81% over 2006. Since 2003, there has been a 26.25% increase in passenger traffic at TIA. Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) officials attribute the strong growth in passengers to additional nonstop air service options and competitive airfares. In the last 10 months TAA has announced the addition of daily nonstop service to 11 new destinations. As of March 2008, there are 13 airlines providing 89 daily departures to 29 nonstop destinations. Last month, US Airways announced they would add daily nonstop service to Charlotte, North Carolina, on June 3. A recap of recent service additions includes: Southwest Airlines: Oakland, California, and a fourth daily flight to San Diego, on November 4. ExpressJet Airlines: entered the Tucson market in April, currently offers 11 daily nonstop departures to nine cities including Austin, El Paso (service ends March 31), Kansas City, Omaha, Los Angeles/Ontario, Reno, Sacramento, San Antonio and Spokane. Delta Air Lines: two flights to Los Angeles on December 17. United Airlines: resumed seasonal nonstop service to Washington, DC /Dulles on February 14 that continues until June 2.
