Delta Air Lines Merger With Northwest Airlines
Effective May 5, 2009 At Tucson International

Tucson travelers will see evidence of the Delta Air Lines merger with Northwest on May 5, when the Northwest Airlines ticket counter at Tucson International Airport (TIA) closes.

Travelers holding both Delta and Northwest tickets will be directed to the Delta Air Lines ticket counter and departure gates on Concourse B. Way finding and other signage around the terminal complex will be modified to reflect the combined operation.

According to the Delta website, the airline expects to have all domestic airports transformed by the end of 2009. As of March 30, the airline reported it had rebranded 119 airports worldwide, and by the end of 2010 nearly 250 pre-merger Northwest mainline aircraft will be painted in Delta’s flagship colors. Until systems are fully integrated, tickets will continue to be issued under both the Delta and Northwest names for existing flights.

The two airlines made history last October with a merger that created the world’s largest airline.

Northwest currently operates two daily nonstop flights to Minneapolis from Tucson. These flights, as well as Delta’s two daily nonstop flights to Atlanta and three to Salt Lake City, will now be serviced from Delta’s existing ticket counter, gates and baggage claim area.

Delta joined the lineup of airlines at Tucson International in 1987 when they merged with Western, which began service at TIA in 1982. Northwest initiated service at TIA in 1983.
