New Beverage Disposal Containers Pre-Security
At Tucson International Airport

Save your cup or bottle. New beverage disposal collection containers have been installed pre-security at Tucson International Airport (TIA) to pool discarded beverages allowing travelers to dispose of liquids down-the-drain before heading through security and save their cups or bottles and refill them once through the security checkpoint.

Security regulations limit liquids, gels and aerosols in carry-on bags. A passenger can take containers of up to 3.4 ounces if all are included in a single, one-quart, clear, plastic zip-top bag that is presented to screeners at the security checkpoint.

“Discarded cups and bottles full of coffee, juice, water and other liquids have been a challenge for Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) custodial crews,” explained TAA Senior Custodial Supervisor Donna Brandibur. “Trash bins are not only weighed-down and heavy but uncontained beverages often contaminate our near-by recycling bins. Our new liquid station encourages travelers to dump their beverage before passing through the security checkpoint.”

Look for the slick shinny stainless steel containers next to paper and bottle recycling bins located at the entrance to the checkpoints on Concourses A and B.

Also located at the entrance to security are Charity Collection Bins that allow travelers to donate items larger than three ounces that are not allowed through security checkpoints to local non-profit organizations. Transportation Security Administration and TAA Custodial staff gather accumulated items and disperse them to approved not for profit organizations in Tucson.

TAA has recycling programs for white paper, cardboard, magazines, wood pallets, newsprint, and many other things. Visit www.tucsonairport.org for more information on TIA’s green program.
